Tell us more about your business and what products you offer?
We started from the dream of having a nice place where people can chill and meet other people while having something tasty to eat and drink. Amiga Mia is the first artisanal ice cream shop in Lajares, but that’s not all we offer. Besides ice cream, we have freshly ground coffee, fresh juices, smoothies, croissants, sandwiches, and much more. Our all-time favorite is our crepes with fruit and whipped cream We have up to 24 flavors including vegan ice cream. When the nights are getting warmer, we also open our rooftop bar, where we host concerts by local musicians, and you can enjoy a cocktail with your friends.
Why did you choose to be a part of Clean Business?
We believe it is important to preserve the environment, especially on an island with limited resources. An island that we love very much and we want to protect.
What are you doing to reduce your plastic footprint and be more sustainable?
All our packaging is made of recyclable material and is biodegradable, we do not sell drinks in plastic bottles or cans, and we use as many local products as possible.
we save around 160.500 liters of water a year”
Our ice cream is produced in the house. Minding the environment, for our ice cream production, we chose to use a closed circle water economizer machine. It allows us to cool our machines using 100 liters of water per year. Normally, it takes up to 300 liters per hour. Water is precious. At school, at home, in our business, we should always be mindful and never waste it.
Why do you find sustainable practices to be important for a business?
Even if it could be challenging for a business, we believe it is important for economic, social, and environmental reasons. We must think more widely and wisely. Not just about the business itself, also about the future generation. They own the right to enjoy this beautiful planet. Our daily actions, small or big, have an impact. And if it’s in our power to help to change things, we should actively participate in doing so.
Is there anything else you want to share with us?
We are very happy to be part of this initiative. It’s inspiring and encouraging that young people are taking action to increase awareness of such an important matter. And obviously…we see you soon in Amiga Mia!
